Our Vision & Environmental Commitment
At Chapel Hill Day Nursery, we nurture curious minds while caring for the planet. Our vision is to create a space where children grow through imaginative play, connect with nature, and learn the importance of sustainable practices.
Our Vision
As a setting we undertake a working agreement to ensure high aspirations for our children, as well as our aspirations for ourselves as Practitioners. We take influences from new pedagogies such as the Curiosity Approach bringing back awe and wonder into childhood, as well as taking influences from established pedagogies such as Vygotsky’s scaffolding theory where our staff explain and model behaviors for learning. To the Reggio Emilia approaches learning which keeps the child at the center and promotes independence and self-directed experiential learning, in relationship-driven environments.
In a society that is increasing in pace, we have identified a need to have a strong approach to supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, At Chapel Hill we have chosen to offer children reduced screen time experiences but focus more on outdoor physical learning and Literacy. We consider ourselves as having a low-tech high touch approach to learning, which means we have some opportunities for children to develop ITC skills, but we prioritize our hands on physical learning as well as early writing skills, making the most of our wonderful outdoor space. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage to support our curriculum and encourage parents to share they’re at home learning using our free parentzone learning journal App, as well as offering ideas for at home learning. Parents may also find this document a useful tool for tracking learning at home. What-to-expect-in-the-EYFS-complete-FINAL-16.09-compressed.pdf (foundationyears.org.uk)
♻️ Sustainability in Action
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We recycle wherever possible, have removed single-use plastics wherever we can, and are gradually replacing plastic toys with natural, open-ended resources. Through these actions, we aim to create a healthier environment for children to learn, play, and grow while caring for the planet.
🌿 Creative & Eco-Friendly Play
We upcycle natural and recycled materials, showing children that toys can be simple, sustainable, and full of wonder. Through creative, eco-friendly play, children develop imagination and problem-solving skills while learning to care for the environment.
🤝 Community Swap Stand
Located in our entrance foyer, the Community Swap Stand allows families to donate and exchange gently used clothes and shoes. By promoting reuse, it supports both our nursery community and the environment, helping children learn the value of sharing and sustainability.
🚑 Air Ambulance Recycling Banks
Situated in our car park, the Air Ambulance Recycling Banks accept donations of clothes and toys. By reducing landfill and raising money for charity, they help teach children the importance of caring—for themselves, for others, and for the world around them.
